Message from the President of the Sri Lanka College of Endocrinologists

Dr Aravinthan Mahalingam

President

It is with deep gratitude and a profound sense of responsibility that I accept my election as President of the Sri Lanka College of Endocrinologists (SLCE) for 2026. Thank you for the trust and confidence you have placed in me.

Our College, first founded in 1978 as the Endocrine Society of Sri Lanka by the late Professor Carlo Fonseka, has grown into the nation’s leading academic authority in diabetes and endocrine care. The respect and stature we enjoy today stand as a testament to the dedication of past presidents, their councils, and the vibrant engagement of our growing membership. Building upon this strong foundation, I am determined to ensure that 2026 is a year of significant progress and achievement for our College.

While awareness of endocrine disorders within the medical community has increased, public understanding remains unacceptably low. Compounding this, Type 2 diabetes has reached pandemic proportions in South Asia, affecting up to 20% of the population in some countries. Addressing this dual challenge—bridging the awareness gap and confronting the diabetes epidemic—must be our primary focus as Sri Lanka’s apex body in this field.

This year, we will renew our commitment to educating healthcare professionals and empowering the public with knowledge. As we have successfully navigated past challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis, we will once again rely on our collective strength to advance our mission.

We will continue our vital collaborations with local and international societies, ensuring our medical community stays at the forefront of innovation and that the public receives accurate, life-saving information.

As your President, I solemnly pledge to provide committed leadership to the ambitious initiatives planned for 2026, striving to honor the faith you have shown in me.

Let us work together to reach new heights and make a lasting impact on the endocrine health of our nation.

Message from the Secretary of the Sri Lanka College of Endocrinologists

It is my great honor to serve as Secretary of the Sri Lanka College of Endocrinologists (SLCE), the nation’s foremost academic body in diabetes and endocrine care. In this role, I am proud to belong to a community dedicated to excellence, collaboration, and the advancement of health for all people across Sri Lanka.

Our College is committed to elevating the practice of endocrinology through continuous professional education, pioneering research, and innovation. We focus on enhancing clinical standards, advocating for patient-centered care, and raising awareness on vital endocrine health challenges, including diabetes, thyroid disorders, and obesity. By engaging with experts both locally and globally, we ensure our members remain at the cutting edge of medical knowledge and best practices.

Moving forward, the SLCE will continue to provide members with robust opportunities for professional growth, research collaboration, and shared learning. I encourage each of you to take an active role in the College’s initiatives, contribute your expertise, and join hands in strengthening the future of endocrinology in Sri Lanka.
