We are glad to announce the successful completion of first-ever ISCD (International Society for Clinical Densitometry) quality bone densitometry course for clinicians organized in Sri Lanka. We are grateful to the ISCD for providing the financial assistance through their Asia Pacific panel grant and the expertise. The SLCE is grateful to Prof Manju Chandran (Consultant Endocrinologist, Singapore General Hospital, Singapore and Chairperson, Asia Pacific Panel of ISCD) and Prof Thomas Paul ( Professor of Endocrinology, Christian Medical College, Vellore, India and Member, Asia Pacific Panel of ISCD) for sharing their expertise as resource persons at the meeting. We are also thankful to our local resource persons Prof Sarath Lekamwasam, Dr Dimuthu Muthukuda, Dr Dulani Kottahachchi, Dr Tharanga Samarasekara and Dr Achini Wijesinghe. This program became a reality thanks to the commitment of Dr Chandrika Subasinghe who secured the ISCD Asia Pacific panel grant and coordinated the program.
The program was well attended by 100 participants including endocrinologists, rheumatologists, orthopaedic surgeons and geriatric physicians. We are confident that the high-standards of knowledge and expertise shared will translate to the better patient care in Sri Lanka.
In parallel to the course, a networking meeting of representatives from Sri Lanka College of Endocrinologists, Ceylon College of Physicians, College of specialists in Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Association of Orthopaedic surgeons and Sri Lankan Association of Geriatric Medicine. This meeting was a great success with several initiative agreed among the participants to establishing better care for people with osteoporosis in Sri Lanka.
